At the start of the year, Jaden Smith had everyone buzzing about his advertising score with Louis Vuitton‘s Spring/Summer 2016 collection. The only issue? He was modeling the womenswear line!

In a new interview with BBC Radio 1xtra, father Will Smith spoke openly about his son’s methods of self-expression, and make no mistake — he’s here for Jaden all the way. When asked if he and wife Jada consciously inject freedom of expression in their household, Will says absolutely, although he jokes that it may have gotten a little out of hand when it comes to their ultra-artsy kids.

“There’s a powerful internal quality as an artist, that as parents, we encourage. You’ve gotta get out on the edge. You have to try things. You have to be comfortable doing things people don’t agree with, and you have to be comfortable doing things that you could fail. Jaden is 100% fearless. He will do anything. As a parent, it’s scary; it’s really terrifying, but he is willing to live and die by his own artistic decisions. He just doesn’t concern himself with what people think.”

Will Smith also confirmed that we’ll be seeing Bad Boys 3 on our movie screens very soon, and he dished on whether or not he would ever return to the Oscars. And yes, he still has love for Janet Hubert, the original “Aunt Viv.”
