As we mentioned yesterday, The Trippy Twins are our favorite indie artists that we’ve had on the site in a long time (and how lucky are we that we get 2 of them!). To celebrate, The Twins have sent us their segment on TheGrid914, a new documentary-based web series that showcases upcoming talent in the 914 area of New York. This first two part episode takes you to the city of Peekskill, NY home of Built Around Loyalty.

Going deep into the stomping grounds of The Trippy Twins, known respectively as 12:12 Slim and Twin Trilla, we learn about a few hidden themes that might be overlooked by the public. 12:12 was diagnosed with cancer a few years back, and to turn a negative situation into something positive, he and Trilla decided to brand themselves with trendy, printed medical masks and sell them. Further creating a culture of meaningful influence within their community, the group’s overhead crew Built Around Loyalty is all tatted with the “12:12” digital clock image. Talk about support!

Along with a FIRE freestyle from Twin Trilla (we think), we also get hipped to the Twins‘ clothing line, Ahead Of Your Time. We’re seriously hoping that we’ll see an #AYX pop-up shop in Jersey or Philly this summer (hint-hint!), so we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for closer locations.

After seeing where The Trippy Twins come from, if you think these guys are just in the rap game as some sort of cool gimmick — stop. They’re true to this hip-hop art 100%, and that’s why we support them. Check out their latest music video “Movin’ Fast” here, and watch the 2-part documentary below.
