Critically-acclaimed artist Fantastic Negrito has made his national television debut on Fox’s Empire Wednesday night (4/27), performing both his single “Lost in a Crowd”—the track that brought him to national attention, winning NPR’s inaugural Tiny Desk Concert Contest—and the hit song “Good Enough” alongside Empire’s “Jamal Lyon” (Jussie Smollett). Fantastic Negrito is the project of frontman and songwriter Xavier Dphrepaulezz, whose highly anticipated debut full-length album The Last Days of Oakland is out June 3 via Blackball Universe.

The band also has upcoming performances slated for May 19 at The Viaduct underneath Buena Vista Bridge in Los Angeles as well as at BottleRock, Outside Lands and Interstellar Rodeo Edmonton in Winnipeg this summer.

Consequence of Sound recently premiered the album cut “About a Bird,” with Dphrepaulezz noting that, “‘About a Bird’ is really a song about extreme narcissism, the danger of ego and self-importance. It is a song about mental illness as well. In the end, it is a desperate plea to be loved.”
