Sam Smith, the soulful British singer-songwriter invaded the United States’ pop music scene this year with hits like “Stay With Me” and “I’m Not the Only One. It was no surprise that the 22 year old artist would be nominated for this year’s Grammy Awards. He is not only nominated for one award but he has the opportunity to take home six total with nominations in Best New Artist, Record, Song, and Album of the Year, Best Pop Solo Performance, and Best Pop Vocal Album.

When asked about the long list of nominations and four out of the six being considered part of the “Big Four” Smith stayed humble and revealed that winning Best New Artist would really mean the most to him he said: “The things me and my team have accomplished on a first record is so amazing. It takes my breath away, and getting new artist would really highlight that.” He also told the LA Times that winning Best New Artist is the most important award to him because “you can only win that once.”

Rodney Jenkins, who has Grammy’s under his belt for songwriting and producing produced Smith’s first single “Stay With Me” told ABC News that, “He could win em’all. He very well could win ’em all. I definitely think he has an opportunity to win three or more.”

Not only does Sam Smith have a long list of nominations for this evening’s award show but he is also set to perform a duet with friend Mary J. Blige. The 57th Annual Grammy Awards will air live on the CBS network tonight at 8PM.
