On our 2nd time heading to the Big Apple to see the latest looks during New York Fashion Week, we had the opportunity to attend Day 1 of Style Fashion Week!

Taking place aboard the Intrepid Sea, Air, & Space Museum, the day was filled with Spring/Summer 2018 releases of a few of the most prominent designers including Malan Breton, Jessie Zhao, Marco Marco, Ionica, Peyman Umay, Gregorio Sanchez, and Meriem Belkhayat, with life-size fashion illustrations from artist Oksana Tanasiv. Musicians Christine W, Amanda Holley, and Mikhayla Hughes-Shaw highlighted the day with their powerhouse voices and use of interpretive dance and live instruments, seamlessly blending together fashion, art, music, and culture.

Malan Breton opened Style Fashion Week with a beautiful palette of cool neutral colors on centerpiece gowns and updated men’s tuxedo suits. The SS18 collection pulled inspiration from streetwear, religion, performance wear, and evening wear. We also saw influence from vintage 60’s/70’s European fashion, as well as a splash of Beethoven and Mozart. The most elegant collection presented on Day 1, Malan Breton included the use of sheer lightweight fabrics, florals, and revamped classic closet staples like bomber and moto-jackets, kaftans, and an array of pant styles.
