Marshall Mathers, more popularly known as Eminen the poor kid from the streets of Detroit who grew up to be one of hip hop’s most celebrated icons celebrates the 15 year anniversary of his label Shady Records this year. In honor of the 15 year anniversary Complex put together this dope documentary: Not Afraid: The Shady Records Story. The film may only be a half hour long but it chronicles Eminem’s journey from his first meeting with Paul Rosenberg to today and the next 15 years of Shady Records.

Music manager and co-founder of the label, Paul Rosenberg has been with Eminem since 1997 and Mathers compared their relationship to that of a father and son. Rosenberg said: “Marshall makes the music and I figure out how to get it out to the world and sell it.”

Royce Da 5’9″ a member of Slaughterhouse and signed to Shady Records said that the label “treats artists like family” and Mr. Porter member of D12 and music producer also added that the record label “builds artists and not just songs.” 50 Cent was also featured in the short film and told the cameras that Eminem is his Dr. Dre and hearing him say that blew me away. Eminem has made one of the largest footprints in the hip hop industry and has paved the way for so many underground rappers and still continues to do so today. He is not only a rapper with a flow but he is a lyrical genius. I don’t think Shady Records is going anywhere anytime soon and I’m definitely looking forward to the next 15 years of Slim Shady, the artists he signs, and record label.
