Jacob Banks releases the official video to his latest single “Chain Smoking.” The video was written and co-directed by Jacob Banks himself, and premiered earlier today via i-D Magazine. Banks explains that the video is “about resilience amongst the oppressed. It’s choosing to not give a shit, even when it hurts.” The track is taken from his critically acclaimed EP, The Boy Who Cried Freedom, which was released earlier this spring on Darkroom / Interscope Records.

Known for constructing songs that blur genres, packed with the emotional punch of poignant lyrics and a dynamic, spellbinding vocal delivery, Jaocb Banks is cementing himself as one of 2017’s most promising break-out acts.

“[Jacob Banks] promised ‘depressing songs,’ but they were also defiant ones. Although he’s from London, Jacob Banks has soaked up American blues and gospel; he can summon bitter moans and back-to-the-wall growls. Meanwhile, his songs fortify their soul underpinnings with the timbres (though not the clichéd beats) of electronic dance music, exorcising pain with a wallop.”
