Maybe you heard what Trinidad James while he was performing in NYC last night, when he said that the South runs New York “musically.” The backlash was inevitable, and soon followed, with Trinidad responding by defending his position and views on Twitter.

Now a fellow rapper, Maino, who is a Brooklyn native, has come to the defense of New York rap and has been tweeting a lot at Trinidad James. Among Maino’s shots at Trinidad, he asks “who let this Rotten Teeth nigga @TrinidadJamesGG disrespect us lastnite.” Maino added later, “imma brush those teeth when I see u baby boy. U a street nigga rite?”

Trinidad James replied to Maino, saying, “you a real nigga Bruh. You don’t have to say that on twitter. You better than that. u can hit my line my nigga. That’s 100.”

From past Interviews, I knew Trinidad would say something like that. I think he’s such a cool & down to earth dude and I appreciate that he’s willing to say whatever he wants to say from his platform on stage, but I also feel like Maino can say what he wants via his platform as well. Why not have an open debate on the state of hip hop concerning the South’s influence (however, I prefer all beefs be settled on the stage or in the booth)? Personally, I don’t feel as though the south won anything. New York’s sound isn’t as identifiable anymore, but how many people are supporting the underground/indie artists in those 5 boroughs??? You can’t complain that you have no sound, NY, or even say that you took someone else’s sound, Trinidad, if no one is giving a voice to those who are already there. Y’all on some Christopher Columbus ish right now, rap game…
