New York Fashion Week was off to a great start, with the Riccardo Tisci, led fashion house Givenchy making its grand entrance. The show was meant to mark the the brands first flagship store in Manhattan. But it was so much more than that. The landscape was a twisted work of art, made entirely of recycled elements. The intro to the show was an hour long performance art piece directed by Marina Abramovic. A couple locked in deep embrace, a Buddhist monk singing what appeared to be religious songs in languages such as: Hindi, Hebrew, Arabic, and Latin.  All while One World Trade Center hovered in the background and two pillars of light sprang from the ground and pierced the sky. A tribute to 9/11 and the lives lost. The event was packed with not only celebrities, but this year, in an unprecedented move and for those quick fingers. Givenchy gave away seats to the public on their website. The front row was clustered with stars like Nicki Minaj, Christina Ricci, Jennifer Hudson, Ciara, Liv Tylor, and many many more. The show also saw some of New York most noted designers: Alexander Wang, Joseph Altuzarra, Jack McCollough, Lazaro Hernandez, Michael Kors, and Vera Wang.  And of course, it wouldn’t be a Givenchy event if label darling, Kanye West, and Kim Kardashian West, weren’t in attendance, garbed in black, with Kim’s shirt emphasizing her baby bump buy covering it only it sheer. The show featured women’s and men’s ready-to-wear items. With new Denim items and haute couture pieces inspired by past Tisci items.  Paired with the Haute Couture items were jeweled masks by Pat McGrath.
