DJ Funk Flex is undeniably one of the most revered icons in hip-hop. Last week, he recounted his journey growing up in the music industry on Cipha Sounds & Peter Rosenberg‘s ‘Juan Epstein’ podcast, and it was packed with he most amazing stories of Flex meeting and building with some of the most recognizable faces in hip-hop history. Now, Flex is gearing up to release a book of untold stories about the late “Biggie Smalls”, The Notorious B.I.G. in a publishing deal signed with Simon & Schuster.


In this still untitled book, Flex drops bombs with music trivia that will make classic hip-hop fans’ heads spin! In an excerpt, Flex reveals how Biggie‘s “Who Shot Ya” was originally meant for use on an Mary J. Blige album. “The song “Who Shot Ya” was originally an intro for Mary J. Blige’s album. Uptown/MCA said it was too hard. The song in its original form had a verse from Big, Keith Murray and LL Cool J, though LL never did his verse. The song still exists,” he says. There’s no release date yet for the book, but we’ll keep you updated.
